Description

Squeezecast (former SqueezePod) turns your iPhone/iPad into a Logitech® Squeezebox™ player.

You can stream your music from your home computer to your iPhone without any loss in quality (WiFi) or encoded as MP3 (over 3G/Edge). FLAC is supported.

Squeezecast simulates a Squeezebox player. It does not use remote streaming (stream.mp3).

- Please read the "Before you purchase" section below before purchasing.

- Please use http://karmeye.com/squeezecast/support to post questions, suggestions, complaints, etc so we can respond properly.

QUICK START

1. Download SqueezeBox server from: http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download. Install it on the same computer where you have your music collection.

2. Install and setup a music library (or use you existing iTunes library) and scan.

3. Locate the following info:

- IP to the computer where SqueezeBox Server was installed

- Web Server Port (default 9000)

- CLI port (default 9090)

4. Start the application and assign Name/IP. If you have password protected the SqueezeBox Server, don't forget to assign the username and password as well.

If you have problems connecting, make sure no firewall is blocking TCP 3483, TCP 9090, HTTP 9000.

5. When Squeezecast has connected you should be able to browse artists and play an album. You can also control Squeezecast and setup playlists etc from the SqueezeBox Server web interface. A player named "Squeezecast" should have been added to the drop down in the upper right corner (see screenshot).

BEFORE YOU PURCHASE

Dec 22, 2010

Squeezecast is not a complete remote controller, nor does it intend to be.You can only browse artists and choose to select a complete album for your playlist. We recommend using iPeng or SqueezePad to control playback having Squeezecast running in the background (make sure to enable the "keep alive" setting). You can also manage playlists in Squeezebox Server web interface.

Squeezecast does not work with Squeeze Server plugins such as Spotify or Rhapsody.

Synchronization of the music stream between Squeezecast and other SqueezeBox devices does not work very well due to too high latency.

There might be stuttering a few seconds at the start of a track when manually pushing play or next/prev (i.e. not between tracks in the playlist). This depends on the audio quality, the speed of the connection and the Squeezecast buffer size (which currently cannot be changed)

TIPS & TRICKS

Use third-party Squeezebox remote controllers

Search for "Squeezebox" to find them.

You can also use the web interface (open a browser on the computer where you installed SqueezeBox Server and type http://localhost:9000).

Streaming away from home with 3G/EDGE

Squeezecast over 3G/EDGE will probably not work very well for full quality audio like FLAC since bandwith will be limited. To solve this, you can tell SqueezeBox Server to encode your audio on the fly to a lower bitrate. See http://karmeye.com/node/50

Latest release is a big improvement

:
The combination of this player app running in the background while using the excellent iPeng app as the controller seems like a workable combo, but connection reliability in this app are really dragging the experience down. The app loses connection to your server frequently, and can sometimes take multiple attempts to reconnect. This issue must be solved before it can be considered ready for prime time. That said, when it does work, it's great - I love streaming my home music collection into my car stereo! When it works....

Addendum - I am raising my rating from two to four stars. A recent upgraded version has made some serious improvements to connectivity. Still not perfect but much, much better!

2/5 stars

Low quality

:
I purchased so I can stream my entire collection at high bit rates (320kbps). When playing same tracks the iPod sound quality is much better although iTunes downsample it to 128kbps. There is also background hiss and the application UI lags.

4/5 stars

Not perfect, but pretty good

:
Clever app. It's not as good as the desktop squeeze player, but pretty good
